| I am a Golliwogg collector in Singapore. What is a Golliwogg? A Golliwogg is a black English doll that was created more than 100 years ago. It all started when Florence Upton wrote the first book "Adventures of 2 dutch dolls and a golliwogg" in 1895 that the whole golliwogg movement began. When did i turn Golly-Fanatic? It was in 2001 on a trip to Melbourne, Australia that I encountered my first golliwogg plush doll. It was a simple handmade golliwogg doll by an old lady in the country. The doll brought back many memories of the golly character in Enid Blyton's books that i had read as a child. Since then, I did alot of research on the internet and my golliwogg collection grew when I made more trips to Australia. I also bought a number of golliwoggs when I discovered Ebay. In 2004, I began to purchase the original Florence Upton Golliwogg books. Golliwogg and beyond ... My Golly dream is to eventually own all 13 original Florence Upton books. Purchase more collector's golliwoggs from established makers such as Steiff, Deans, Merrythought, Pedigree, Chad Valley, Wendy Boston and so forth. |
